The Mason Enterprise Center (MEC) invites applications for the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) Operations Support Specialist position.
Every day, staff at the Community Business Partnership (CBP) make a difference in the economy of Northern Virginia! In 2017, the CBP's highly qualified trainers and counselors created over 350 training events attended by over 4,000 entrepreneurs resulting in 763 individuals receiving one-on-one counseling. This activity led to the creation of 56 new businesses, 604 new or retained jobs, and over $3.5MM in direct capital investment.

About the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) at CBP:
The VBOC is a veteran-focused entity that provides entrepreneurial services to transitioning veterans and spouses/family members who aspire to start businesses upon departure from the military service. There are twenty-two VBOCS in the continental United States, and the CBP hosts one of the largest which services veteran's needs within the national capital region which includes, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. It is estimated that the veteran population within the NCR exceeds 1.4 million.
The core offering at the NCRVBOC is an SBA-sponsored program called Boots to Business (B2B). It is a two-day training experience that covers the essentials of starting a business. The VBOC Director is responsible for provisioning for B2B training at seventeen government installations across the NCR. Trainers consist of qualified staff and consultants who are trained to deliver this program. The VBOC also provides expanded training opportunities, counseling, and mentoring for qualified transitioning personnel. Substantial coordination and collaboration among the various Department of Defense (DoD), Small Business Administration (SBA), and NCRVBOC personnel is required in order to accomplish this mission in an efficient and seamless manner.
Maintain Master Calendars for all B2B offerings;
Monitor availability of class material and related handouts;
Ensure that certificates of completion are available and properly signed;
Ensure that sign-in sheets are properly accounted for;
Maintain and update trainer Tool Kit content;
Coordinate with area TAP offices at least 24 hours prior to each scheduled B2B session;
Collect and monitor processing of consultant invoices;
Assist with course close-out activities;
Assist with conference planning activities;
Prepare briefing material for the Director;
Screen and schedule counseling sessions for the Director;
Perform ad hoc duties as may be required to ensure VBOC success;
Represent Director in his absence for CBP administrative matters;
Represent VBOC with display tables at conferences;
Conduct follow up action with clients and partners per Direction of the Director;
Represent the VBOC on monthly calls in the absence of Director;
Accomplish other duties as assigned to support the mission of the VBOC.
Strong organizational and time management skills showcasing independent initiative;
Flexibility with hours of work and varied assignments;
Demonstrated ability to organize tasks;
Demonstrated ability to multi-task;
Ability to adjust and adapt to last-minute changes;
Significant interpersonal, customer service, and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
Bachelor of Arts degree;
Previous experience in a high-volume operations management role;
Salary: $18/hour; Commensurate with education and experience.
