Purpose of Job:
The Senior Manager, Global Operational Risk (GOR), Global Wealth Management is responsible for leading the Second Line effective challenge and oversight/governance for all Global Wealth Management products, services and distribution channels. The Senior Manager is responsible for helping the business line execute on all Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) tools, policies and standards by providing independent effective challenge and value-added advice.
Act as the key/main point of contact for GOR to the business line internal control teams (referred to as the 1B teams) in the first line of defense for Global Wealth Management and applicable corporate support areas. Align yourself as a key trusted partner to the 1B/1A teams demonstrating support and value-added independent advice as the subject matter expert, (SME) on the operational risk program.
Conduct independent analysis and challenge the outcome of all the Operational Risk Management Framework tools - Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs), Scenario Analysis, Issues, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), Loss Data, and New Initiative Risk Assessment (NIRA's) as applicable.
Stay up to date on all relevant internal, external risk events associated with your business line and new developments and emerging risks within the industry.
Help the business identify unknown gaps and issues.
Conduct a root cause analysis with the 1B team for significant Loss events.
Ensure proper documentation of all challenge/oversight is retained on file for audit purposes.
Be the lead for your 1B contact with respect to the review, assessment and enhancement of the Bank's operational risk management tools and methodologies.
Review the Bank's operational risk exposures, profile and operational risk reporting on a quarterly basis.
Work closely with the business line 1B team by:
Supporting the management and delivery of the Risk and Control assessment program conducted by the business. This includes participating in due diligence sessions and other independent research necessary in order to assess and play an independent effective challenge role as the second line of defence regarding key risks raised by the business units.
Participate and support in the development and scheduling of RCSAs, Scenarios and Facilitated Working sessions with the 1B team leads.
Supporting the 1B team in the development of their operational risk management programs as well as to responding to regulatory and audit requests for operational risk-related information;
Supporting the 1B team and business units in the development of their Key Risk Indicator programs, including quarterly reporting requirements.
Monitoring and supporting the 1B team and business lines with their New Products Pipeline reporting and monitoring including evaluation of their New Initiative Risk Assessments (NIRA).
Review and Prepare presentation decks, training material and Operational Risk reports as required.
Play an active role in the department's quality assurance program.
Manage and co-ordinate various regulatory requirements as requested by OSFI/FCAC/Internal Partners and provide support to the department and other Bank units as required.
Communication/escalation/reporting on material operational risks, including against established thresholds and operational risk appetite, where appropriate.
Analyze issues raised through self-assessments and other reviews including those performed by Audit, Shareholder Auditors, and Regulators to determine significant risks.
Support other projects as required.
Undergraduate Degree or higher and /or 5+ years relevant work experience in operational risk management compliance, internal audit or other relevant areas.
Experience in Wealth Management business line, products and services preferred.
Understand and be familiar with OSFI E21 guidelines and other relevant regulatory guidelines.
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and relationship building skills with an ability to bridge communications between GOR, business and control function stakeholders/partners/executive level;
Strong problem solving skills, with a focus on managing a team environment with attention to results, details and a demonstrated sense of urgency. Proven ability to develop analysis and insights.
Must be able to work independently and in a team environment demonstrating a collaborative mindset.

Ability to comprehend technical, financial and operational risk issues and use them to inform the creation of effective action plans.

Knowledge and experience of business processes and risk management considered an asset.
