The Missouri Institute for Defense & Energy (MIDE) within the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC) is seeking to hire an Assistant Director of Research. In this role, the successful candidate will support and lead multiple aspects of research and development needs for a counter unmanned aerial vehicle group. This individual would oversee the work performed by others at UMKC and external organizations working on simulations, experimental data collection, or a combination of both. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the computational and experimental data can be standardized for one-one comparison with the goal of informing design decisions made by the pulsed power and RF design subgroups. A successful candidate will be knowledgeable in programming, data analysis, experimental design, and capable of communicating with multiple individuals from varying backgrounds.
Coordinate discussions between technicians and staff collecting experimental data and running simulations
Communicate needs/changes in data collection or simulation to those performing the work to ensure coverage of a full parameter space relevant to individual projects
Lead data analysis and development of analytical algorithms for the processing of RF coupling data and experimental data.
Mentoring and guidance of undergraduate and graduate students in physics and engineering with emphasis on computational simulations
Continued professional development
Insure analysis and data processing are performed within the guidelines of the project's security protocols and the results of processing/analysis are marked and controlled as appropriate
Prioritizes individual projects based on deadlines and requirements of all IDES ongoing efforts
Support IDES growth/development as the technical lead on simulations and modeling identifying needed resources and suggesting allocation of efforts to technical directors to ensure timely and professional execution of research and development
Bachelor's degree in Physics or Engineering with focus or proven experience in programming, computer science, or data analysis
Programming experience in Fortran and Python
Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience in Physics or Engineering programming, data analysis, algorithm development, and experimental design.
Experience in analysis of experimental RF response data
2+ years of experience in parallel computing, embedded systems, and computational system hardware or performance tuning
5+ years experience working with various programming languages including but not limited to C, C++, Python, Fortran, Perl, R, and Visual Basic
Proven experience in working with external entities either corporate, government, or university
Ability to hold and maintain a United States security clearance
Full Time/Part Time
This is a 0.75% FTE benefits-eligible position.
$40,200 - $56,472 annually.
