A research assistant position is available at the Oceanography (OC) Department, Naval Postgraduate School. The official government position title is defined as “Faculty Associate – Research”. The researcher will work with Dr. Jamie MacMahan and undertake field-based research on nearshore hydrodynamics along rocky shores in central California, as part of the ONR-MURI funded project entitled “ROXSI: ROcky shores eXperiments and SImulations”. The researcher will collaborate with other principal investigators in the project. Funding support for the position is for 3 years, with start date in the summer 2021. Applicants should have experience in nearshore and inner-shelf physical processes, data analysis, and scientific writing. The applicant must show a history of work in these or closely aligned areas.
The OC Department is part of the Graduate School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and has a long history of excellence in physical and applied oceanography. The department has a strong research infrastructure, such as facilities and vessels located in close proximity to Monterey Bay, CA, an experienced group of technical staff, and computational resources.
NPS is a federal institution within the U.S. Department of Defense that awards MS and PhD degrees. The student body is composed of U.S. and international military officers from all services, as well as federal employees.
A graduate degree in an oceanography, engineering or related field;
Experience publishing scientific research;
Demonstrated ability to work with student researchers;
Must currently hold or be eligible for a Secret clearance;
S. citizenship required.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience based on federal government Administrative Determined (AD) pay scale including locality adjustments.
