The Impact You'll Make in this Role As a supply chain expert, you will be responsible for the following. Provides consulting expertise to senior business and division management. Improves business results by providing data interpretation, analysis and design to lead the re-engineering of supply chain material flow from raw material to the customer.
Designs and manages the implementation of complex supply chain activities, using various methods and tools such as: Synchronous Management, Process and Product understanding, Six Sigma, and principles of re-engineering. Promotes supply chain thinking and optimization for existing and new products by analyzing supply chain variables, inventory approaches, information flow and capacity planning systems.
Manages cross-functional projects/people to improve processes that optimize production planning and execution. Key player in the identification of corporate IT requirements necessary to support supply chain systems. Directly influences major supply chain changes with senior business unit management. Changes can occur across multiple manufacturing, distribution locations, and may include several divisions.
Approximately 10-20% of the position will require supply planning.
As a Supply Chain Process Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Determining Supply Chain Analysis and Design: Defines customer requirements and identifies problem areas, service failures, and improvement opportunities to support current and future customer/business needs. Identifies difficult and complex problems, provides cause and effect analysis and documentation, and makes recommendations for short and long-term solutions to plant, business unit, or division. May create "what-if" analyses to model and understand the effects of various decisions on supply chain optimization. Designs supply chain solutions that may include any or all of the following areas:
Material Flow (from raw material to customer delivery); including procurement and distribution
Information Flow and IT Systems (i.e. order process flow; production and planning systems, reporting systems)
Implementation and Leadership: Develops a plan to implement supply chain solutions that will achieve measurable business results. Manages the implementation. Provides leadership that includes coordination activities, coaching and guidance. Assembles and leads multiple project teams to implement supply chain solutions. Leads or participates in the Sales and Operations Planning process as required. Establishes a close working relationship with business unit management, and influences business unit supply chain activities. Leads and manages new planning tool and Demand Management implementations.
Training and Education : Conducts training sessions as needed, including Synchronous Management/Constraint Management training, Throughput, Inventory and Operating Expense. Serves as resident expert in the use and application of existing/new planning tools. Provides guidance to business/division/plant senior management on supply chain concepts and strategy. As a supply chain expert, the individual will continue their personal development to learn and understand the latest supply chain innovations/theories/practices and make recommendations to the plant/business unit on their application.
Supply planning: Manages supply chain planning for a small product portfolio/plant. Activities include: forecast review, determination of supply requirements, purchase order placement, monitoring of supply performance (on-time and in-full), liaison between the plant and various business functions (Quality, Marketing, Lab) and member of New Product Introduction team.
Measurement and Reporting: Establishes measurement and tracking systems to monitor and report supply chain performance and achieve measurable business results. Establishes baseline measures prior to new supply chain solution implementation. Responsible for reporting progress on supply chain process improvement projects. Measures may include: service attainment, supply chain speed/inventory turns, inventory and buffer levels, waste/yield, cycle times, forecast accuracy/manufacturing attainment, transportation time and cost, etc. Continuously evaluates and establishes measures that are directly related to managing/improving business performance and recommends the replacement of obsolete reports.
Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, general business, engineering, or a demonstrated course of study in any of those areas as part of a Bachelor's degree program, is preferred.
Five (5) years of supply chain experience in a private, public, government or military environment.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Master's degree in Supply Chain Management or other
Skills include: data analysis (Excel or Access), experience with MRP software (Oracle, SAP, other), project management skills, excellent communicator (both written and spoken)
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic
Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
Responsibilities of this position may include direct and/or indirect physical or logical access to information, systems, technologies subjected to the regulations/compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.
