The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As an Advanced Quality Engineering Specialist for the Bonding and Converter Solutions Business Team (B&CS) withing the Industrial Tapes and Adhesives Division (IATD), you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Actively participating on and coaching multiple Business Teams.
Providing Quality Engineering support for Global Product Launches as an integral part of electronic 3M Grow project teams.
Communicating to IATD Leadership on Quality Metrics and performance.
Supporting Manufacturing and Application Engineering on Customer and Supplier issues.
Requiring strong leadership and coaching skills.
Driving Defective Parts Per Million (DPPM) reduction by leading cause analysis for process/product variability and driving quality improvements for elimination of special causes and reduction of variability.
Applying a working knowledge of quality principles and statistics to assigned processes and products.
Leading effective root cause analysis/corrective action through use of cause mapping, process mapping, fishbone diagrams, etc.
Developing test methods.
Effectively identifying, troubleshooting and resolving non-routine problems.
Serving as resolution owner for incoming customer complaints, including identifying root cause and implementing effective corrective actions.
Ability to lead continuous improvement efforts in any of the IATD Business Units, which may include the following:
Quality system improvement projects that will enable our production operations to continuously run to target, reduce variability, and consistently produce quality products for our customers.
Product & process improvement projects
Supplier improvement projects
Managing documentation, including Customer Certification & Test Instructions (CTI's), Production Part Approval Process (PPAPs), DPPM reports and Advance Change Notices.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Five (5) years combined Quality, Manufacturing, and/or Product Engineering experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Bachelor's degree or higher in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited institution
Seven (5) years combined Quality, Manufacturing, and/or Product Engineering experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Demonstrated ability to drive a Customer First mindset and Quality Culture within teams
Solid organizational skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments
Extensive knowledge of 3M Core Technologies and products
Knowledge of quality systems such as International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 and industry-specific systems such as Technical Standard (TS) 16949 and or International Automotive Task Force (IATF) 16949
Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodology
Operational experience working with current Quality Management Systems and processes
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) experience, SAP a plus
Ability to understand and champion quality and compliance requirements
Experience with IT systems and/or IT system implementation projects
Demonstrated ability to deploy system changes with plant sites globally
Professional certification(s) such as: Quality Engineer (CQE) and/or Quality Auditor (CQA)-American Society for Quality (ASQ)
Detail oriented with project management experience
Ability to influence at all levels, promoting and driving change acceptance
Strong oral, written communication and presentation skills
Experience working on cross-functional and global teams
Travel: May include up to 15% domestic
