Associate Provost for Research Office of Research and Innovation
The Office of Research and Innovation (OR&I) at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) invites applications for the Associate Provost for Research (APR), a senior leadership position supporting the Vice Provost for Research (VPR). A PhD is required, as well as experience in leading teams of researchers or research programs. Applicants must show a history of working in and contributions to an applied research environment.
The APR is responsible to support the oversight and coordination of NPS’ OR&I on behalf of the VPR, and provides supervisory leadership to the Research Operations and External Partnerships Office (ROEPO) within the OR&I. The APR assists in the development of research strategy, research and reimbursable policy, resourcing coordination in support of research activities, administrative oversight, operational coordination, program analysis, and research and reimbursable service support for NPS’ reimbursable portfolio. The APR is a full-time position that reports to the VPR.
Minimum qualifications: • Requires an earned doctoral or other terminal degree in a discipline relevant to programs at NPS; • 3 years or more experience working in an applied research environment; • A strong research and publication record; • Demonstrated success in developing effective teamwork to accomplish institutional goals; • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance; • U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred qualifications: • At least one year experience in an academic management position (e.g., Department Chair, Research Center Director, etc.) in one or more accredited institutions of higher education; • Demonstrated experience with defense and government research funding agencies, such as DARPA, ONR, AFOSR, NSF, etc; • Knowledge of and experience working with other organizations within the Naval Research & Development Establishment, and external organizations such as academia and industry.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants with foreign education will be required to select from a list of private organizations that are members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), which provide foreign education evaluations acceptable to NPS.
